This previous semester I took metalsmithing as a 200 level elective. I felt so uninspired to do anything; the majority of people in the class were older females (but extremely nice, sure) that created/altered their jewelry. Not knowing a damn thing about jewelry, well, I did the bare minimum by just showing the techniques throughout the course

This summer I'm taking a branch-off course of it: casting. The past few days, I've been scouring DA just looking at all sorts of art. It started when I was first planning my tattoo, then I thought, "hmmmmm, I could check metal work!" Which may or may not have been a good thing. For hours upon hours, I've been browsing through hundreds and hundreds of metal work and other art in general.

I'm most definitely the type that wouldn't consider themselves a creative individual; my insecurities and overall lack of confidence prevents me from doing quite a bit. Although, being able to see what people are able to do, well, it made me realize I could do it too! I definitely know what I like (I can judge/critique anything, thus preventing my own expression), and I've been able to get a few ideas here or there.

Overall, I'm actually "excited/anxious" to start class...now that I have had a creative breakthrough, that is. Ironically enough, the collection will be themed around "The Fall of Icarus," don't ask how I hadn't thought of it sooner. Originally even, I was going to do some fallen and guardian angel sculptures, but hell, I just look at it in a slightly different way, and bam: Icarus!

At this point I have everything planned out rather well: sculptures, to artistic rings/necklaces/pendants, to fountains...I'll finally have something to work on! I'm afraid to look at more stuff because I don't want to see the extent as to which this type of work has been done; at least no matter what, I'll know for myself, all of my pieces will be original and unique (of course there are some that will be heavily inspired by other art, but that will be noted).

Soooo yea, unfortunately I have Statistics tomorrow night...Casting isn't until Friday I guess I can wait and keep planning. I've even ordered some stuff to have around the house! I just hope this all turns out the way I envision it. If it does, I'll be sure to share!
